How JCI Supports DC Blox with Unique Cooling Technology
JCI Sales Engineer Charles Casey explains how the company’ s sustainable magnetic bearing chillers support DC BLOX data centres in becoming more efficient
Johnson Controls International( JCI) holds a multi-year partnership with DC BLOX, primarily centred on the implementation of magnetic bearing air-cooled chillers for nextgeneration data centre cooling requirements.
Charles Casey, Senior Sales Engineer for Data Centres & Complex Projects at Johnson Controls, describes the partnership as addressing core data centre challenges.
For JCI, this involves offering mechanical engineering solutions that deliver both technical and business outcomes.
“ I support our customers from design inception on their data centre projects all the way through to execution,” he says.“ My background and specialties are in mechanical engineering and business finance. It’ s a position that merges the two, understanding where the optimum engineering solution and business solution cross.”
DELIVERING ON DC BLOX EFFICIENCY TARGETS The partnership focuses on implementing JCI’ s magnetic bearing air-cooled YVAM chillers, which represent a core component of DC BLOX’ s infrastructure approach.
“ With DC BLOX, they’ ve selected our magnetic bearing air-cooled chillers for certain projects, which focus on efficiency for next-generation data centres,” Charles says.“ These chillers either reduce power costs significantly for the same energy usage or free up additional IT capacity.”
This approach reflects the strategic challenges faced by data centre operators working within power constraints. Charles explains that data centre providers must work within fixed power allocations, making efficiency a competitive advantage.
“ There’ s a set amount of power on the site,” he says.“ In next-generation data centres, working with partners like JCI, we help determine how to build the optimal solution that either uses that power most efficiently, most economically or maximises revenue potential.”
DRIVING SUSTAINABLE COOLING TECHNOLOGY The relationship between the two companies extends beyond traditional vendor-client arrangements, with DC BLOX participating in product development processes at Johnson Controls.
“ DC BLOX has been a partner in our development of multiple platform iterations
