DATA CENTRE SECURITY
“ By bringing in these big networks, we’ re driving that pressure on that industry to step up and improve their standards”
JENNIFER HOLMES, CEO, LINX
services and the connectivity eco-system in Ghana and is designed to support continued connectivity growth across the country.
“ We are really proud of what we’ ve done in Africa. What we’ ve been doing in the continent is moving into regions where we can make a real difference,” Jennifer explains.“ We don’ t intend to go up against regional exchanges – if there’ s someone in a country that’ s already doing a good job, we are not needed.“ It’ s these regions where competition is helpful or the community is asking for more – communities expect more as well. The internet industry out there, although it’ s behind Europe, it’ s all new infrastructure and new data centres. So they expect automation 24 / 7 – so if we can go into a community and help make a difference through training or sharing knowledge, then we will.”
The IX is also keen to prioritise network resilience within this as, with such digital transformation comes a greater need for risk prevention and cybersecurity.
Within Africa, the difference in infrastructure has been something LINX has had to get used to, adjusting their expectations accordingly.
“ We have high standards in every region in which we operate. In places like Nairobi( where LINX Nairobi is operated) we can adjust that according to what the industry expects there,” Jennifer says.“ We’ ve had a couple of issues with fibre outages, but actually when those providers realise that we’ re not messing around and we actually want what we pay for, then we start pushing those expectations up. By bringing in these big networks, we’ re driving that pressure on that industry to step up and improve their standards.”
