Operators align on paying their own way Cost allocation is the thread running through several of the world’ s leading data centre operators’ responses. The state’ s stated concern is the socialisation of interconnection and generation costs onto residential and small-business bills, and operators have answered it directly.
Meta says it pays the full costs for the energy used by its data centres so they are not passed on to consumers, together with the costs associated with water and wastewater usage and the grid infrastructure needed to serve its sites. QTS makes the same commitment in respect of energy costs and local utility bills, while Equinix pays the full cost of its grid infrastructure needs in Texas.
