TITLE: CHIEF TECHNOLOGY OFFICER
COMPANY: PARK PLACE TECHNOLOGIES
INDUSTRY: IT SERVICES
Chris has worked with Park Place Technologies for 20 years and leads across the company’ s managed services. He oversees ParkView, an offering that remotely monitors assets in thousands of data centres worldwide.
Embracing the circular economy extends the life of IT equipment and reduces overall costs to dissipate heat, where resources like water are continuously reused and recycled.
“ This means dramatically reduced water consumption and significantly improved Power Usage Effectiveness( PUE), Chris says.“ It’ s crucial because data centres already consume about 1.5 % of global electricity and this number is only going to rise with the proliferation of AI.
“ Closed-loop systems are not just about being environmentally responsible – they’ re about futureproofing data centres, reducing operational costs and ensuring organisations can handle the growing demands of modern computing.”
With nearly 150 zettabytes of data being consumed globally in 2024, Chris says that space-saving designs within the data centre are improving out of necessity. According to Goldman Sachs, AI workloads are forcing the density of power use within data centres to potentially grow to as much as 176kW per square foot in 2027.
“ As such, data centres have no choice but to build systems that are more compact and are built for efficiency,” he explains.“ While innovative solutions such as immersion cooling play a vital role, achieving true compactness and efficiency requires a broader strategy that extends beyond the physical infrastructure. This includes embracing circularity in wider operations.
