FIVE GLOBAL MANDATES
CATALYSING AI-DRIVEN COMPLIANCE FOR DATA CENTRES
1
EU
Region: Europe
ENERGY EFFICIENCY DIRECTIVE( EED)
The mandate: The recast EED requires data centres with an installed IT power demand of 500kW or more to publicly report rigorous telemetry, including energy consumption, power usage effectiveness( PUE), water usage effectiveness( WUE) and waste heat utilisation
2 EU AI ACT
Region: Europe( with global extraterritorial impact) The mandate: The world’ s first comprehensive AI law categorises AI systems by risk. It places strict governance, transparency and data quality requirements on“ high-risk” AI models. The Act’ s data governance and transparency rules are forcing AI providers to seek out“ Sovereign Cloud” infrastructure and highly secure colocation facilities that can guarantee data provenance and prevent cross-border data leaks.
3
ISO
/ IEC 42001
Region: Global Standard The mandate: The first internationally recognised standard for AI management. It provides a certifiable framework for organisations developing, providing or using AI systems, demanding continuous risk assessment and impact mitigation. Data centres are no longer just hosting AI – they are using it. ISO 42001 certification will soon become a massive competitive differentiator for colocation providers looking to prove they manage their own internal AI tools responsibly.
