Broadcom designs the semiconductors that connect servers inside large data centres. Its Tomahawk and Jericho switch chips underpin hyperscale Ethernet fabrics, and its optical interconnect components carry traffic between racks and campuses. The custom accelerator business designs AI processors that several major cloud operators deploy alongside merchant GPUs, while the US $ 69bn VMware acquisition added virtualisation and private cloud software, giving Broadcom a position spanning data centre hardware and the platforms above it.
