ENERGY & POWER
hile NVIDIA is a powerhouse of innovation in processing units and hardware‘ of the future’, the company shows no wavering in its efforts to be the backbone of AI.
As AI cluster power consumption moves beyond megawatts, traditional alternating current( AC) power distribution is nearing its physical limit. By shifting to an open-standards 800-volt direct current( 800 VDC) architecture, data centres reduce power conversion losses, cut heat generation, and dramatically increase rack density.
The physical reality of the AI race is no longer just a contest of chip architecture; it is a battle of thermodynamics and electrical engineering.
When hundreds of GPUs operate in unison, traditional data centre infrastructure hits a wall. For decades, facilities have relied on stepping down their power through a chain of AC transformers, power distribution units( PDUs), and localised AC-to-DC converters inside every individual server rack.
