Energy, water and facility-level transparency Water and energy remain the issues raised most often in local objections. Katie argues that technology can address a large share of both, provided the relevant choices are made at an early stage:“ Energy use and water consumption are among the issues most frequently raised by communities, and technology can address a significant part of each challenge when the right decisions are made early.“ More efficient cooling, closedloop systems, intelligent controls and waste-heat recovery can reduce resource demands and improve energy performance. In most designs and locations globally, operators can avoid ongoing cooling-water consumption altogether.” She adds that communities now expect figures specific to the facility in question:“ Transparency is equally important.
