By relying on renewable power sources, innovative power, and cooling technologies, data centres will continue to reduce their own emissions while mitigating major emissions from other sectors and leveraging AI.
In a white paper on the topic, our research indicates renewable electricity will account for 67-87 % of supply in 2050. The research predicts a total reduction of 28 gigatonnes of global greenhouse gas( GHG) emissions from all industries by 2050. Some 10-30 % of this reduction will be attributable to digitisation optimisation from data centres, representing 2.8-8.4Gt.
