A MOSAIC OF HABITATS

Beyond pollinator-specific interventions, the Lighthouse Campus embraces a broader landscape strategy. The design integrates a mosaic of habitat types, including tallgrass prairie, mixed forests, wetlands and riparian areas – many of which were historically part of the region’ s natural landscape. Vantage expects to plant over 2,000 trees and native, drought-resistant landscaping.

This diversity is intentional. Different species require different conditions, and a varied landscape increases the overall ecological resilience of the site.

Prairie restoration, for example, supports flowering plants critical to pollinators, while forested areas provide nesting and shelter for birds and mammals. Wetland enhancements improve water retention and create environments for amphibians and aquatic species.

The project also leverages functional infrastructure such as stormwater basins to serve ecological purposes. Instead of conventional turf-lined basins, bioretention systems planted with native wetland species are proposed to increase biodiversity while meeting the operational needs of the facility.
